Artists statement
Whether crafting original prints, photographing the landscape or facilitating workshops, I bring enthusiasm and curiosity to every project. My practice blends the mediums of photography and printmaking, exploring themes of memory and landscape. My prints draw on imagery gathered from around the world - painted onto silk-screen or etched into stone - I aim to chart the rhythm and flow of the landscape.
I am curious about the differences between the lens and the eye, particularly in relation to time. An image isolates a moment. There is tension in this seclusion, evident in the tranquil photographs of Joel Meyerowitz. Long-exposure images create a sense of otherworldliness and individual insignificance, detached from the daily concerns of our busy lives. My recent analogue photography focuses on capturing decay. The locations I depict, much like moments frozen in a photograph, echo a time that is lost.
Originally from Staffordshire, I have experience as an Art Technician. My creative and teaching practices are grounded in exploration of materials, processes and landscapes. I value providing opportunities for learning through experimentation and am especially passionate about outdoor learning and community arts work.
